Hi there! Welcome to my blog. My name is Helena Escalante and I love to read books (150+ per year) on the topics of business, marketing, leadership, psychology, biographies and personal growth. My husband says I’m the Chief Bookworm Officer, and our dog seems to like reading too… 😉
I live outside New York City, and part of my heart also lives in Mexico and in Spain. I’m a copywriter as well as a content strategist and creator for thought leaders, authors, coaches, consultants and personal brands. I am lucky to be the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at The New York Public Library, which both fuels and feeds my appetite for learning. I love to speak in public and I’ve done so for government, corporate, and non-profit functions. I’ve also had the honor of sharing the stage, interviewing some of my favorite authors and entrepreneurs like Seth Godin, Marianne Williamson, Laura Vanderkam, Dave Kerpen, Marie Forleo, Peter Shankman, J. Kelly Hoey, Chris Guillebeau, Mitzi Perdue, Tama Kieves, David S. Rose, Derek Lidow, Bernie Swain, John Lee Dumas, and many more. It’s a dream come true to meet and befriend all these wonderful gurus that I’ve admired for so long! I am also a SCORE business mentor for startups and small businesses.
My superpower? I am a connector: of people with people and with the resources they need to achieve their goals. Nothing gives me greater joy than to hear that something I did was helpful or that someone took a step in the right direction after using a resource that I mentioned. So I sincerely hope that the ideas in this blog are helpful to you, and I would love to hear how you used them and shared them!
When did my love of reading start? When I was a little girl. I devoured every book and magazine that I could get my hands on.
But what about my love for business books? Yes, I know that’s very odd. Here’s the story: when I started my business, I quickly realized that I was very good at my trade but lacked the knowledge to run a business on a daily basis. Accounting? Ugh! Bureaucratic paperwork to be filed? Double ugh! Leading people? Gotcha–that one I actually liked! But wanted to make sure I was the best I could be for the wonderful people with whom I worked. I found some fantastic and superknowledgeable mentors, but I needed more help, sometimes very specific, and I needed it fast. I started reading business and personal development books and blogs as a way to help myself and my business, and I simply fell in love with them. The rest is history.
I’m an open book (pun intended, couldn’t resist!), so please, please, pleeeeeeease let me know if I can be of help with pointing you to any resources that I know of to help you reach your business and life goals, I’ll be delighted!
